Specific Working Conditions:  Normal office environment, however, there may be need for working in the data centre, in poor weather conditions or occasional travel to austere locations to support project implementation, service delivery, or scientific programmes of work;
 
Duties and Role:  
Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, the incumbent will perform duties such as the following:

  • Provide expert engineering support NATO's Deployable CIS Reference Systems. Technical support will include design, test, implementation, deployment and support of new IT baselines, provide specialized troubleshooting and explore new technologies, in the areas of Networking, Infrastructure, Platform, Authentication, Web hosting, cyber hygiene and Remote Desktop solutions.
  • Prepare, install and maintain the local Integration Hub Laboratory named "MARS" (Mission Agnostic Reference Systems), which hosts the NIMSC Reference Systems;
  • Perform the testing activities in the Integration Hub for testing new Baselines, new software and hardware versions or Models;
  • Prepare Test Cases for Equipment Under Test;
  • Execute Tests and write Reports;
  • Maintain documentation and configuration baselines for the Integration Hub.
  • Contribute and participate in a Development-Operations (DevOps) environment using concepts like continuous integration, continuous change management, deployment automation and system monitoring.
  • Document designs and implementations of assigned services as well as troubleshooting guides
Requirements:
  • NATO Secret security clearance
  • At least 3 years' experience supporting and implementing in deployable or large enterprise environments of:
  • Centralized storage systems based on FC, iSCSI, SAS or Hyper converged technology like vSAN;
  • Recent Virtualization Technologies based on VMWare ESXi and Virtual Centre;
  • Recent Microsoft Windows Server or Redhat Linux Operating Systems;
  • Expert Directory, Identity and Access Management consisting of multiple interconnected and federated Active Directory Domains and Forests;
  • Expert DNS resolution, server hardening, AD troubleshooting and GPO development
  • Microsoft Remote Desktop solutions, or related Application provisioning technology
  • High Availability Systems (i.e. Fail-over clustering, Database Availability Groups, stretched clusters, etc)
  • Windows patching and anti-malware update systems
  • Modern digital communication networking techniques, protocols and standards
  • Communication networks specification, design and testing, with an emphasis on IP networks
  • At least 1 years' active participation in a DevOps team with demonstrable experience of:
  • Bash or PowerShell scripting languages;
  • Automation and orchestration tools.
  • Knowledge of ITIL IT service management mode and applied knowledge of Service Transition.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing technical manuals.
  • Experience in writing, analysing and commenting on technical documents;
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Experience in laboratory and field trials planning, execution and evaluation;
  • At least three years' operation and configuration experience of CISCO Routing and Switching Elements;
  • At least three years' operation and configuration experience of and operation of Network Automation or equivalent network automation and orchestration systems;
  • A minimum of three years' experience with the configuration and operation of Network Monitoring Systems (Intermapper, CA Spectrum) and Event Management systems;
  • A minimum of three years' experience in Exercises and Operations support;
  • Very good knowledge of Transmission and Telecommunication Systems Engineering and the associated aspects;
  • Extensive knowledge of implementing and operating network authentication and authorization systems and technologies;
  • A high level of knowledge of network, system and application level troubleshooting techniques;
  • Sound knowledge of communications protocols and practical experience of using diagnostic test equipment;
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP protocols;
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP);
  • Deep understanding of the concept of QoS in IP-Networks;
  • Very good knowledge of Policy Based Routing;
Desirable Experience and Education:
  • Knowledge and experience in applying ITIL, COBIT and eTOM principles and methodologies applied to effective Service Management and Control;
  • Formal ITIL Certification in Service Operation;
  • COTS products (Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, VMWare VCP, Cisco CCDA, CCNA)
It is considered highly desirable if you can demonstrate experience with at least one of the following:
  • Previous in depth experience with Ansible configuration management and orchestration tool to manage Redhat Linux and Windows systems
  • Expert experience in designing and troubleshooting complex VMWare environments
  • Expert experience in designing and troubleshooting McAfee ePolicy architectures
  • Prior experience in maintaining Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint Server, ADFS environments
  • Prior experience in maintaining VEEAM Backup & Replication environments
  • Prior experience of working in a deployed exercise or operations environment
  • Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of Federated Mission Networking (FMN) in service design;
  • Familiar with Architecture modelling language(s) (UML, SysML, ArchiMate, etc.), preferably in the context of an Architecture Framework (TOGAF, DODAF, Zachman, etc).
